"You may look, but please don't touch!" The desk was filled with stuff. You could easily loose six notebooks in it and it would take you days to find them back again.
"What about this junk?" I had asked Minne. He had just arrived and while I had been waiting for him to come home, I'd made coffee and could have made a three-course meal if I had the talent for it.

"Come on, I want to start with the Neuro-bar tonight." Minne led me through a hazardous obstacle course of discarded garden junk – rusty barbecue parts, disemboweled garden chairs, empty paint cans and piles of timber meant for the tree house project that was now on hold – until we came to Dr. T's shed. Thank god there was electricity and we didn't have to work in the dark.

The shed was full of crates and wet cardboard boxes and there was almost no room to swing a cat, but somehow we got started. I found some inflatable giant red lips, a girl's Barbie-bathing suit, a lifebuoy (stuff that Marcha the Machine left behind after the last Cellspace event) and a cupboard full of tea-warmers. On a cupboard shelf I found a forgotten bottle of Smirnov. It kept us going for a while. Eventually we had to stop, because we were running out of tape.

Having packed almost ¾ of all the stuff we finally decided it was enough. There would be enough hands to clear the job the next day.

Cellspacers en vrienden. Het was een turbulent weekje! We hebben het met z'n allen geklaard. Sommigen in het energie-team en anderen vol in actie. Hieronder een update.
Zoals beloofd, gaven Mentor en The Case op 5 oktober een vlammende presentatie aan de nieuwe NDSM-directie. Dat resulteerde in een nieuwe plek: voor 2 maanden à raison van 240 eu's ex servicekosten zit Cellspace in het expo-gedeelte van Dazzleville.
Woensdag wordt de satelliet aangesloten en is Cellspace zegge en schrijve - buiten de Mentor, de Minister en de Bereichsleiter - 2 dagen niet online geweest.
Behalve voor de NDSM zijn we ook nog steeds in de running voor Cellspace Outpost (Zaandam); dit loopt via de officiële kanalen, zodat we er pas over 2 maanden kunnen intrekken.
Cellspace Hardware Dept gaat maandag Connexxion bellen. Ontsluiting, heren en dames: erg belangrijk. Cellspace Central heeft maandag een spannende dag. Hierover later meer.

Het zou helemaal prachtig zijn, als Minne The Case Belger en Broertje Knappertje ook nog een private spot krijgen toegewezen van AdHoc. Niels heeft z'n spullen gestashed en zwermt even uit.

Cellspace on the move

Day 1

It was about half past seven when I arrived at Cellspace. The Home base was filled with boxes, tape, and a faint smell of old, wet dogs.

Somehow it always seems sad to see a whole life packed into cardboard boxes. But the treasures you'll find! Things you thought you'd lost, things you didn't know you had and stuff that makes you wonder who had bought it, when and for what purpose.

We worked like the A-team, only better and nobody seemed to mind. That is, except for Sloerie, the old bitch who was producing her own soundbed of mournful noises. Now and then, when spoken to, she'd wag her tail against the couch or floorboards – whack, whack, whack, never forgetting to make sure everybody knew how she felt about the whole thing.

Although we will miss this place, we're already making plans for our next location, which will be much better and for what it's worth, much bigger. But Sloerie doesn't care, she feels that something big is gonna happen and at her age that's not so exciting anymore. She will miss her trees, all her special places and the smell of the old house (mainly her own smell…). It tires her to think of all the new special places she has to discover.

Niqui plodded through the enormous amount of gadgets, files, photo's, kitchen stuff, and – surprisingly – also a giant bag of diet dogfood, while risking being trapped between two people struggling with two laptops and an ancient, but still very well functioning desktop just for the sake of it. The new enervating e-experience also known as Cellspace is definitely going to move out of 'Het jachthuis'.Just to proof that Cellspace isn't bound by anything - least of all a location - we have to do it as quick and as painless as possible. Moving to what, to where? Never you mind. As long as we stay a team, everything and everybody will be working like a Swiss watch.It won't be the last move we'll make. I see a great exciting future for us: living like nomads, travelling through virtual space and time; living in sea containers stationed all over the world; communication over the internet with all kinds of kindred spirits; exploring new and exciting places; working in different cities and face those ankle-biting conservatives who fear everything that's different; walking through jungles, risking malaria, venomous snakes…Let's get started!

Cellspace opereert internationaal als een netwerk van "insultants" dat concepten ontwikkelt en uitvoert voor een internationele klantenkring. Er wordt geld verdiend om Cellspace's andere activiteiten te kunnen bekostigen op het gebied van onderzoek en concept-generatie: dit is de motor die de energie het Cellspace netwerk in pompt.

Cellspace heeft ervoor gekozen om vanuit wisselende, tijdelijke locaties te werken. Sommige van deze locaties zijn werkgebonden - bijvoorbeeld gedicteerd door de wens om dicht bij een klant te kunnen zijn in een ontwikkeltraject. Sommige locaties blijken perfect te zijn om aan specifieke concepten te werken. En andere locaties roepen op tot een diepe betrokkenheid vanuit de wens om (stedelijke) landschappen op een andere manier te ontsluiten: door een laag toe te voegen, de virtuele laag van Cellspace's verbeeldingskracht

Cellspace plant bewust 6 maanden "off time" in een werkjaar om zich met de kernactiviteiten te kunnen bezig houden.

"Mobile Playgrounds" is zo'n voorbeeld van de architectuur van de verbeeldingskracht. Mobile Playgrounds werd ontwikkeld binnen de context van het NDSM-terrein, maar is universeel inzetbaar: het is architectuur die tijdelijk werkelijkheid kan worden, geen voetafdruk nalaat en meteen zijn culturele en praktische functies kan vervullen. In dit geval: het bieden van een hoogwaardige omgeving aan jongeren om de regisseur, maker en zender te worden van hun eigen multimedia-productie.

Cellspace ontwikkelt dit soort oplossingen vanuit een wisselwerking met de terreinen waar het tijdelijk verblijft. Hoewel Mobile Playgrounds ook op het Domeinen-terrein kan worden ingepast, zou de verbeelde architectuur voor dat terrein weer een heel andere kunnen zijn, afhankelijk van de beoogde gebruikers.

Kan Cellspace gastheer zijn voor bewoners uit de omtrek van het terrein, of een vrijplaats scheppen voor conversaties en ontmoetingen tussen burger en overheid voor de Gemeente Zaandam? Het terrrein en de wisselwerking tussen alle (beoogde) gebruikers, zijn hiervoor bepalend.
